Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled saponite useful as a catalyst for alkylation, dehydration and cracking, by immersing saponite in an aqueous solution of each specific inorganic acid salt(s) and chloride(s) etc. to perform ion exchange followed by drying and calcination. CONSTITUTION:Saponite of formula I is immersed in an aqueous solution with a concentration of 0.1-1mol./l of inorganic acid salts(s) such as nitrate(s), sulfate(s) and/or phosphate(s) and chloride(s) from at least one kind of metal element selected from groups IIa, IIIa, IIIb, IVa and VIII metals to perform ion exchange for a specified time while gently stirring at 0-90 deg.C. Thence, the resulting saponite is subjected to filtration, being rinsed until the metal ions cannot be detected in the washings, and dried followed by calcination at <=650 deg.C, thus obtaining the objective saponite of formula II (MN<+> is at least one kind of metal element in selected from the groups IIa, IIIa, IIIb, IVa and VIII metals, n is integer of 2-5).
