Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled pitch with uniform particle size distribution, having potential orientation, applicable as an alternative raw material such as binder pitch, by spraying viscosity-regulated raw pitch, through a nozzle, into an inert atmosphere or sparingly oxidative atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:Bulk mesophase pitch is regulated in the viscosity by means of, e.g. adding a solvent highly compatible therewith such as quinoline being preheated to 300-500 deg.C followed by feeding to a nozzle such as dual-fluid nozzle, through which the mixture is sprayed into an inert atmosphere such as of N2 or Ar heated to ca. <=500 deg.C or sparingly oxidative atmosphere such as N2 containing ca. 10% of air, ozone or chlorince, thus obtaining the objective pitch.
