Therefore, no time base error signal is outputted from the time base error detection circuit 9 to a driving circuit 10, and no time base correction by a time base coil 12 is performed. In other words, the primary object in mechanical time base correction by an arm stretcher lies in the correction of the basic component (low-pass component) of jitter, which makes worse responsiveness by reducing a servo system gain smaller than ever. On the other hand, since the primary object in electronic time base correction using the variable delay line 7 lies in the correction of a high-pass jitter component, the electrical quantity of correction can be reduced.
