Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide the title clarifier which makes it possible to manufacture a transparent soap having very excellent transparency according to the milling process, and which comprises a particular hydrophilic polymer material. CONSTITUTION:The title clarifier comprises a polymer of a hydrophilic compd. selected from a compd. of formula I [wherein X is H or COOH; R1 is H, CH3 or carboxymethylene; and Y is OH, acetoxyl or a group of formula II (wherein AO is ethylene oxide or propylene oxide; m is 0-50; and R2 is H, 1-10C alkyl or cyclohexyl)], maleic anhydride and itaconic anhydride, a copolymer of the above-mentioned hydrophilic compd. with another vinyl compd., or a salt of such a (co)polymer which contains a COOH group in the molecule thereof. This clarifier comprises, e.g., a homopolymer of acrylic acid, a copolymer of vinyl acetate/ethylene or a sodium salt of a copolymer of maleic anhydride/ styrene. By the use of the above-defined clarifier, it is possible to overcome with certainty the problem of poor transparency which has been regarded as the drawback of the conventional milling process, and hence to obtain a transparent soap having extremely excellent transparency.
