Abstract

PURPOSE:To absorb impact force substantially equally by providing a plastic- deformable energy absorbing unit disposed in a pad, which is formed by interposing a plurality of belt-like connecting arm portions, with the lateral directions thereof substantially intersecting perpendicularly to each other, between the respective base portions of upper and lower members. CONSTITUTION:The above energy absorbing unit comprises upper and lower members 12, 15 formed by press working sheet metal, which are connected by spot welding 18. The upper member 12 has an upper base portion 13 which is formed in the horizontal direction at the upper part and is substantially rectangular and a plurality of belt-like connecting arm portions 14 formed by throttling to be U-shaped in section by press working in the peripheral edge portion. These connecting arm portions 14 are disposed in such a manner that connecting arm portions 14A, 14B of the same number, the lateral directions of which intersect perpendicularly to each other, are mixed. The lower member 15 is formed in such a manner as to be substantially vertically symmetrical with the upper member 12. The thus formed absorbing unit 11 is threaded on a pad 5 at a fitting hole 16a formed on the lower base portion 16.
