Abstract

PURPOSE:To execute a speedy retrieval in rapid traverse, rewinding and cueing at the time of reproducing by providing an index code adding circuit to discriminate the information of the data packet of a character signal and to add an inherent index code. CONSTITUTION:When switching circuits 5 and 6 are connected to a character broadcasting side, a character broadcasting signal is extracted from a video signal at a character broadcasting receiving part 9, the extracted signal is stored into a memory 10 for a while, and, for the signal stored in the memory 10, a frequency is converted from a high band to a low band by a time converting part 18 so that the signal can be recorded by a video tape recorder. Further, inherent program number and page number are discriminated out of the information of the data packet of the character signal, added with a digital signal by an index code adding circuit 45, and recorded by a recording and reproducing part 7 of the video tape recorder as they remain to be the digital signal. At the time of reproducing, the signal fetched by a head is restored to the original frequency by the memory 10, reproduced to the character signal and outputted.
