Abstract

PURPOSE:To make unnecessary the recording of new character data by reproducing the recorded character data once, storing them, and controlling them so as to be stored together with changed music number data into a sub-code area when the music number of the subcode recording area is rewritten. CONSTITUTION:In a magnetic tape, to which the music number data and the character data are recorded in the sub-code area, when the music number data are rewritten, the character data are recorded as follows. That is, first the magnetic tape is reproduced once, and the character data are stored into a storing circuit 28. Next a control signal for head searching is detected, and the character data stored in the circuit 28 are recorded to the sub-code area together with the music number data rewinded up to the top part of the music and changed and the control signal for the cueing by a control circuit 30. Thus, at the time of a re-numbering action, necessity to record the character again is eliminated.
