Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the charge-discharge performance of a battery by using a nickel electrode prepared by using a conductor having finer particle size than that of nickel hydroxide which is active material and by highly dispersing the conductor in an active material layer. CONSTITUTION:A secondary battery consists of a negative electrode comprising Cd, Zn, or Fe, and electrolyte comprising an aqueous solution of KOH, NaOH, or LiOH, and a nickel positive electrode prepared by highly dispersing a conductor such as graphite, furnace black, and carbon fiber having smaller particle size than that of active material in an active material layer obtained by mixing an active material such as nickel hydroxide or nickel oxybydroxide with polytetrafluoroethylene. Nickel hydroxide particles and conductive material particles are closely arranged in the nickel electrode, the contact efficiency between both particles is increased, the transfer of an electron is made easy, and the charge-discharge performance of a battery is increased. By using fine conductive particles, they are highly dispersed, the loading of the conductor is reduced, the content of nickel hydroxide in the electrode is increased, and the capacity of the battery is also increased.
