Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect a small non-recording section when re-recording is executed onto a tape recorded once as a detecting signal to show the non-recording section of a magnetic tape by detecting the output at the time of the non- magnetic field of the output of a magnetic response type thin film head arranged so as to scan a control signal. CONSTITUTION:By a magnetic response thin film MR arranged so as to scan a control signal track, the tape magnetizing condition on a track is converted to a voltage. The output waveform detected by a head 1 is amplified 2, an output is A/D-converted 3 and sent to a voltage level comparing circuit 4. At the circuit 4, a digital output is made into an input level and the input level is classified into three steps of a high level (x), an intermediate level (y) and a low level (z). A system controller 5 receives the output of the circuit 4, judges that to execute an intermediate level input continuously for the period specified beforehand is the non-recording section detection, and can detect a small non- recording section to occur from the position relation of an overall width erasing head at the recording completing point when re-recording is executed onto the tape recorded once.
