Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate the need of an expensive driver, and to execute driving with an inexpensive driver, by moving a light opening part and a light closing part of two liquid crystal optical shutters at an equal speed in the same direction, and allowing a light beam to scan at a high speed by length of a desired picture element portion. CONSTITUTION:In light beams radiated from a linear light source 5, a part of the light beams is obstructed by a light closing part of the first liquid crystal optical shutter 1a, and the other light beam reaches the second liquid crystal optical shutter 1b. By the second liquid crystal optical shutter 1b, the light beam in the advance direction is also obstructed, and the light beam transmits through an optical scanning part 6 by length (l) of a desired picture element portion. The light opening part and the light closing part of each liquid crystal optical shutter can be controlled by increasing the brightness and darkness of a liquid crystal molecule or the inversion area, along the longitudinal direction. Accordingly, boundaries 2a, 2b can be scanned in a state that the length (l) of the desired picture element portion remains held, by increasing the light closing part as for the first liquid crystal optical shutter 1a, and increasing the light opening part as for the second liquid crystal optical shutter 1b by following up said increase. In such a way, an expensive driver becomes unnecessary.
