Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the residual capacity of a battery without exhausting the battery to display the same, by comparing a preliminarily stored reference voltage pattern with the terminal voltage waveform of a dummy load. CONSTITUTION:A switch 2 is subjected to on/off control by a pulse generating part 4 and a switch control part 5 and, by turning the switch 2 on, a pulse current is supplied to a dummy load 3 from a battery 1 and pulse voltage appears between the terminals of the load 3. This pulse waveform voltage is compared with a preliminarily stored reference voltage pattern in a waveform detection part 6 and the residual capacity of the battery 1 is detected to be displayed on a display part 8 through a display driving part 7. Since the decay of the residual voltage pattern due to the exhaustion of the battery is affected by the kind and residual capacity of the battery and the magnitude of a discharge current, by properly selecting a discharge current value, a discharge time and a discharge cycle corresponding to the kind of the battery, the residual capacity of the battery can be accurately judged without almost exhausting the accumulated electric energy of the battery.
