Abstract
PURPOSE:To efficiently heat the contents of a vessel and to produce the title high-m.p. and high-toughness metal with good productivity by heating the chloride of a high-m.p. and high-toughness metal in the vessel by an induction coil surrounding the vessel, and reducing the chloride with an active metal. CONSTITUTION:The chloride of a high-m.p. and high-toughness metal such as Ti and Zr and an active metal such as Mg are charged in the vessel 1 made of stainless steel, etc., and set on a resistance heater 7. A cylindrical induction coil 10 supported by a yoke 9 is provided in a peripheral wall 8 outside the vessel 1 to surround the vessel 1. An AC current at about 5-60Hz is applied to the induction coil 10 to heat the contents of the vessel 1 to about 1,000 deg.C.
