Abstract
PURPOSE:To readily obtain the colorless and high-purity titled compound, by carrying out purification providing a process for concentrating indole by subjecting a hydrocarbon mixture containing indole to liquid-liquid extraction and purification process for simultaneously applying treatment processes of recrystallization and decolorination. CONSTITUTION:A hydrocarbon mixture containing indole such as coal tar fraction or liquefied oil is subjected to liquid-liquid extraction to concentrate the above-mentioned indole and as necessary extraction residue layer produced as by product is subjected to supercritical extraction treatment (selectively carrying out extraction of an ingredient other than indole, mainly neutral aromatic compound at short time) to afford a crude indole, which is then simultaneously subjected to recrystallization and decoloring treatments by crystallization with hexane and active silica and as a result purification of the indole is carried out to provide the purified colorless indole useful as a starting raw material of tryptophan which is a raw material for perfume, medicine, etc., and an essential amino acid and having 99.9% high purity.
