Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal recording material which is free from fogging and provided with superior color-forming sensitivity, by incorporating a water-soluble organic compound having a specific range of cloud point in a thermal color-forming layer provided on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:A thermal color-forming layer mainly composed of a colorless or light-colored electron donative dye and an electron accepting compound reacting with the electron donative dye to produce a color is formed on a paper substrate. A water-soluble organic compound having a cloud point at 30-100 deg.C is incorporated in the thermal color-forming layer. This organic compound in use is an agent inducing gelation due to heat, such as polyvinyl methyl ether, polypropylene glycol, and siloxane-oxyalkylene copolymer. The heat-sensitive gelling agent is preferably added in the amount of 0.1-20pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. of a coating liquid (solid content), mixed, and stirred, thereafter being applied to the substrate. As the electron donative dye a triphenylmethane type, a fluorane type, and others are used. As the electron accepting compound (color developer), a phenol type compound, an organic acid, the metal salt thereof, and others are used.
