Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a fermentation product having uniform quality, without using the post-treatment process of a fermentation reaction product, e.g. filtration and sterilization, by sealing an aqueous liquid containing microorganisms in a particular hollow fiber and supplying an aqueous solution containing a fermentation raw material to the outside of the hollow fiber. CONSTITUTION:Microorganisms suitable for the production of a fermentation product are sealed in a hollow fiber permeating a substance having a molecular weight of <=5,000, e.g. a hollow fiber 2 preferably made of a hydrophilic polymer (e.g. regenerated cellulose, acetyl cellulose or polymethacrylic acid ester) and having an inner diameter of about 1-0.1mm and a wall thickness of about 100-10mum. The microorganisms are made to contact with an aqueous solution containing a fermentation raw material by supplying the solution to the outside of the fiber.
