Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title hollow fibers without degrading the mechanical properties, by introducing a liquid containing a specific substance, e.g. periodic acid, as a core liquid into the hollow part of a cellulose ester hollow filamentary material, and by introducing a heparin containing liquid into the part after coagulation.
CONSTITUTION: A cellulose ester solution is extruded through an annular slit into a filamentary material, and a liquid containing periodic acid salt and/or lead tetraacetate (preferably in a concentration of 0.05W1 mole %) is introduced into the hollow part of the extruded material. The vicinal diol site of the cellulose is cleaved by the periodic acid to form an aldehyde group. After coagulating the material, a liquid containing heparin is introduced into the hollow part and combined with the aldehyde group to give the desired hollow fibers.
USE: Purification and dialysis membranes of blood, ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis membranes.
