Abstract

PURPOSE:To regulate arbitrarily a voltage applied to a load by arbitrarily setting the charging voltage of a capacitor through opening and closing a switch. CONSTITUTION:A voltage for a primary side low-voltage AC power 3 is rectified and boosted by a Cockcroft-Walton circuit 1 and a charging capacitor 4 is charged with said voltage. A switching control circuit 5 opens a switch 2 when a charging voltage exceeds a set point so that the charging voltage of said charging capacitor 4 is maintained at the set point. After that, when a trigger signal is outputted from a light-emitting trigger circuit 7, the interelectrode resistance of a xenon flash lamp 6 changes and an electric charge of the charging capacitor 4 flows to said xenon flash lamp 6 to emit light. Further, a voltage applied when the load xenon flash lamp 6 emits light, can be variably set at an arbitrary value when the set point of said charging voltage of the charging capacitor 4 is varied.
