Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled fiber, consisting of a polymer consisting of acrylonitrile, a halogen-containing monomer and sulfonic acid-containing monomer and a polymer consisting of acrylonitrile and methyl acrylate and having high shrinkage, excellent strength, feeling, etc. CONSTITUTION:(A) A polymer consisting of >=40wt.% acrylonitrile (hereinafter referred to as AN) and 20-60wt.% halogen-containing monomer and sulfonic acid-containing monomer in an amount of 95-60pts.wt. is initially blended with (B) 5-40pts.wt. polymer consisting of 30-75wt.% AN and 70-25wt.% methyl acrylate to provide a composition, which is then used as a raw material to afford the aimed fiber having >=25% shrinkage in boiling water. Furthermore, vinylidene chloride is preferably used as the halogen-containing monomer in the component (A) and, e.g. sodium allylsulfonate, is preferably used as the sulfonic acid-containing monomer in the component (A).
