Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled high-quality roll outstanding in wear resistance and surface smoothness, by forming an attached layer thereon through impregnation of inorganic colloid solution under reduced pressure to decrease variation in roll hardness. CONSTITUTION:The objective disc roll is one which can be produced by compression matching of a doughnut formed plate 2 with a bulk density of >=0.5g/cm<3> made from (1) aluminosilicate-based noncrystalline fiber 6 containing <=30wt.% of shot, (2) inorganic binder 7 and (3) organic binder. The manufacturing process for this roll is as follows: the roll surface is abraded, being impregnated with an inorganic colloid solution under reduced pressure to effect its attachment 5 followed by drying and solidifying said solution attached to form an attached layer, thus obtaining the objective roll of stabilized quality with little variation in roll hardness. Said inorganic colloid solution consists of at least one kind of sol selected from silica sol, alumina sol and zirconia sol.
