Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve wear resistance without deteriorating high-temp. corrosion resistance by adding a specific ratio of N to Ni-Cr base alloy powder. CONSTITUTION:This alloy powder for thermal spraying contains, by weight, 15-65% Cr, 0.2-1.0% N, and if necessary, <=1.0% C and <=0.35% B, and consists of the balance Ni. This powder contains a relatively high ratio of C and the thermally sprayed film formed when this powder is thermally sprayed has the solid soln. phase of Ni and Cr, i.e., the metallographical crystal structure in which N is solutionized to the matrix. This solutionized N contributes to the strengthening of the matrix by the solid soln. strengthening. Since the thermally sprayed film has the higher hardness, the wear resistance is improved. The passive film of the surface of the thermally sprayed film is strengthened and the high-temp. corrosion resistance of the thermally sprayed film is simultaneously improved by the solutionization of the N. The hardness of the thermally sprayed film is enhanced by the synergistic effect of the above-mentioned ratio of the C and N. The B lowers the m.p. of the powder and uniformizes the structure of the thermally sprayed film.
