Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide an oral cavity plaster composed of a supporting material and a plaster layer containing a drug for transcutaneous absorption, wherein the supporting material is a sheet film made of polysaccharides composed mainly of a cellulose produced by a specific microorganism. CONSTITUTION:The objective plaster for oral cavity application is composed of (A) a supporting material which is a sheet film of a bacteria cellulose and (B) a plaster layer containing a drug for transcutaneous absorption and is useful for the remedy of stomatitis, gingivitis, orthodontic treatment, etc. The bacteria cellulose can be produced by inoculating a microbial strain belonging to Acetobacter genus, etc. (e.g. Acetobacter aceti subsp. xylinum) in a nutrient medium and culturing at pH 5-9 and 20-40 deg.C for 1-7 days by standing culture or under gentle aeration and agitation until the produced cellulose reaches a prescribed thickness. The bacteria cellulose is edible, has high adhesivity to the mucosa, moderately absorbs water, swells with saliva to soften as a whole and has excellent strength and abrasion resistance.
