Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide the corrosion resistance equiv. to the corrosion resistance of an Ni film to a recording film and to provide the coercive force higher than the coercive force of the Ni film thereto by forming the recording film of a thin ferromagnetic metallic film which consists essentially of nickel and into which manganese and oxygen are incorporated respectively in a range of prescribed ratios. CONSTITUTION:The recording film 2 of 1,000Angstrom thickness consisting of the assemblage of columnar particles is formed on a nonmagnetic substrate 1 consisting of a polyethylene terephthalate film having 10mum thickness by using an Ni-Mn alloy which is variously changed in the compsn. ratio of Ni and Mn as a vapor source and executing continuous diagonal vapor deposition at 55 deg. min. incident angle. The thin ferromagnetic metallic film 2 which consists essentially of the nickel Ni and contains the Mn in the 5-15atom.% range and the oxygen in the 10-30atom.% range is used as the recording film 2. The high coercive force of >=400[Oe] which is not obtainable with the Ni film is thereby obtd. and the excellent corrosion resistance is provided to the recording film.
