Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable smooth and rapid fixing operation by providing the time when the on-heating of a fixing roller and the non-rotating state of a roller pair are maintained in a temp. range above an intermediate set temp. CONSTITUTION:The fixing roller is heated to the temp. above the toner softening temp. and thereafter, the temp. is shifted to the standby set temp. while the roller pair is kept rotating in either of the cases in which the fixing roller temp. at the time of supplying a power source is above and below the toner softening temp. and in the casein which there is a temp. difference between the fixing roller 20 and a press roller 21 at the time of supplying the power source. The smooth fixing is thereby ensured without lowering the heating rate and without generating breakdown and overshooting even if printing is started in this state. Particularly the time for self-checking of the other important constituting elements of the fixing roller is obtd. and the accuracy of the temp. detecting means is improved by providing the time for maintaining the non-heating of the fixing roller 20 and the non-rotating state of the roller pair in the case of supplying the power source at the intermediate set temp. or above.
