Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the amt. of spatter generated and to stabilize arc by using a compd. of lithium with specified elements as a lithium compsn. added to a flux filled into a flux-cored wire after specifying the amt. of total CO2 and the amt. of water. CONSTITUTION:A lithium compsn. as lithium-based stock for a flux-cored wire is a compd. of Li with Fe, Mn, Si or Al and oxygen. The amt. of total CO2 and the amt. of water are regulated to <=1.5wt.% and <=1000ppm, respectively. When the flux-cored wire is used, the amt. of spatter generated and the amt. of diffusible hydrogen in a deposited metal are reduced and made nearly constant, arc has superior stability and steadily stabilized welding work efficiency is obtd.
