Abstract

PURPOSE:To accurately detect an obstacle such as a buried body by forming a front member which contacts the ground at the tip part of a civil work machine by using a nonmetallic material and setting its specific dielectric constant close to that of the ground. CONSTITUTION:A front plate 2 made of ceramics is mounted as the front member on the tip part 1 of the civil work machine. When the machine is used, the external surface side of the front plate 2 contacts the ground (dielectric constant=2-80). In general, an electromagnetic wave is reflected by the border part of a material which differs in specific dielectric constant, but the front plate 2 is made of ceramics, so the specific dielectric constant of the front plate 2 is made nearly equal to that of the ground and the reflection quantity of the electromagnetic wave on the contact surface is suppressed greatly. Then if there is an obstacle such as a buried body in the ground in the advance direction, its reflected radio wave passes through the contact surface of the front plate 2 contacting the ground and the front plate 2 efficiently ad is received by a receiving antenna element 4.
