Abstract
PURPOSE:To contrive to reduce cost of installation and to improve shelf stability and aggregation properties of product, by specifying temperature, pH and slurry concentration in neutralizing sodium aluminate and further dissolution temperature of amorphous alumina hydrate in hydrochloric acid. CONSTITUTION:Sodium aluminate and a mineral acid are continuously fed to a tank and alumina hydrate is formed by maintaining slurry in the tank at pH 4.5-7.5 at <=30 deg.C and <=3wt.% calculated as Al2O3 of alumina hydrate. The formed alumina hydrate is dissolved in hydrochloric acid at 20-50 deg.C to give basic aluminum chloride. In the operation, the slurry concentration may be <=3wt.% and facilities can be miniaturized. When pH is <4.5, the hydrate partially exists in a dissolved state to cause loss. When pH >7.5, solubility is deteriorated and the liquid becomes pasty. When hydrolysis temperature exceeds 30 deg.C, the hydrate is slightly dissolved in the acid, stability and aggregation performance of the dissolved solution are deteriorated. When the dissolution temperature of the hydrate is <=20 deg.C, the hydrate will not be dissolved and when >=50 deg.C, stability of the prepared solution is decrease.
