PURPOSE:To improve the productivity of an ADI gear and the precision of a hob cutting at a tooth cutting hob for an austemper-treated spherical black lead cast iron gear whose pressure angle is under 20 deg., by making a side escape angle more than 5 deg.. CONSTITUTION:When the cutting of an austemper-treated spherical black lead cast iron (ADI) gear is conducted by means of a tool using one blade of a hob, that is to say, a circle tool, scraps cut out of the front escape surface and the side escape surface of the tool blade tip interfere, and the wear of the tool becomes heaviest at the angle part of the tool blade tip. Therefore, the angle of side escape is made to be over 5 deg.. Thus, the tooth cutting of the ADI gear which is hard to cut is done in good productivity, and the improvement of hob cutting precision becomes possible.
