Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:Optically active N-carbamoyl-2-(R)-amino-4-phenylbutyric acid of formula. USE:A production precursor for angiotensinase inhibitor. PREPARATION:The objective compound of formula can be produced by using D,L-5-phenetylhydantoin as a substrate and hydrolyzing the substrate with a hydantoinase (EC, 3.5.2.2) or microbial cell capable of producing said enzyme. The enzyme is purified enzyme or microbial cell producing said enzyme and the use of microbial cell is convenient because of simplified reaction operation. The compound of formula can be converted into an N-substituted-L-amino acid derivative having a prescribed steric configuration by treating with a diazotizing agent and a halogenation agent under acidic condition and condensing the product with an L-amino acid derivative.
