Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the usability by providing a plurality of passenger's sensors on a seat so as to grasp the positional relationship between the passenger's feet and a seat, and by moving the seat at least in the longitudinal direction, thereby it is possible to position the seat to obtain a predetermined relationship between the passenger's feet and the seat. CONSTITUTION:There is provided a seat back and forth drive mechanism having an electric motor M1, for sliding the driver's seat back and forth. Seating detecting means EL1-EL3 are provided in the seating surface of the seat at different positions, that is, the longitudinally foremost position, center position and the rearmost position of the seat, and an output signals therefrom are delivered through passenger detecting units 51-53 to a microcomputer 50. This microcomputer 50 controls the electric motor M1 in such a way that the seat is moved forward when the seating detecting unit EL1 detects the seating, but the same is moved rearward when the seating detecting unit EL2 detects no seating while inhibiting the same from moving if the seating detecting means EL3 detects no seating.
