Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate arc starting and to simplify valve operation by providing a gas ejection port which is decreased in total aperture area to the discharge space of a cathode enclosed by a cathode and intermediate nozzle and supplying an inert gas to the space. CONSTITUTION:The gas ejection port 22 is provided on the discharge space of the cathode part enclosed by the cathode 12 and the intermediate nozzle 11. The total aperture area of the gas ejection port 22 is set smaller than the aperture area of the intermediate nozzle 11 and the nozzle 10. The gaseous flow at the time of arc starting is assured and the stable induction of an arc is executed by such constitution and, therefore, the valve operation is simplified.
