Abstract

1,031,033. Blow torches. COMPAGNIE DE SAINT-GOBAIN. Feb. 14, 1963 [Feb. 14, 1962; May 4, 1962], No. 6049/63. Heading H5H. A plasma flame blowpipe in which a current of plasma-generating gas is directed on to an arc formed between electrodes in a chamber, has a further cooling chamber round one of the electrodes to receive a cooling fluid, the plasmagenerating gas itself being the cooling fluid. The gas flows through duct 23, duct 9, calibrated jet 3, anode cooling chamber 2 around anode nozzle 1, duct 10, cathode cooling chamber 13, grooves 12 in cathode carrier 11 carrying cathode 5, and anode nozzle 1. Knob 19 adjusts the position of cathode 5. Excess gas can be discharged through a relief aperture 7, Fig. 3 (not shown). A powder fluidization device, Fig. 4 (not shown), can be fitted to the blowpipe to convert it into a spray gun. In a second embodiment, Figs. 5-8 (not shown), the cooling fluid is introduced in liquid state and vaporized in the anode cooling chamber 64, and an auxiliary electrode 65 is provided for initiating the arc.
