Abstract

PURPOSE:To decompose iodopalladiumate and to produce Pd particles having a narrow width of a grain size distribution by adding an alkali hydroxide metal to an aq. pallad iodopalladiumate soln. obtd. by reaction of palladium iodide and alkali iodide metal salt. CONSTITUTION:The aq. soln. of the iodopalladiumate such as K2PdI4 is prepd. by bringing the palladium iodide such as PdI2 with the alkali iodide metal salt such as KI. The iodepalladiumate may be an Na salt, Mg salt, Ca salt, and NH4 salt of palladium iodide in addition to K2PdI4. The aq. soln. of the alkali hydroxide metal such as NaOH or KOH having >=3N concn. is added to the aq. soln. of such iodopalladiumate to cause the reaction and the pH at the end point of the reaction is controlled to >=13.0 at 50 deg.C and >=12.5 at 80 deg.C, by which the iodopalladiumate is decomposed and the Pd particles having the narrow width of the grain size distribution is obtd. at a high yield.
