Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease a floating force generating width so that the lower floating is stably attained by spacing the front end of a coil conductor layer at a prescribed distance from a float generating face and forming a step shape into a largely cut shape. CONSTITUTION:The front end part 16a' of the coil conductor layer 16a of a thin film magnetic head element 16 is disposed by spacing the same by 30-90mum from the float generating surface of a floating rail 13. The rail 13 is made into the step shape 31 cut largely in the central part. The width WRI of the floating force generating face of the rail 13 can, therefore, be reduced to the width smaller than the max. pattern width WH of the head element 16. Since the floating force is decreased by the narrow floating force generating surface, the stable lower floating is attained.
