Abstract

PURPOSE:To substantially eliminate the return time of a thermal head to enhance a printing speed as a whole, by a method wherein, when one thermal head traveled from a start point to an end point along a platen, the other thermal head had been returned near to the start point already. CONSTITUTION:Thermal heads 1, 2 with drive IC chip bonded are connected to a belt 3 point-symmetrically to each other. The belt 3 is extended between two pulleys 4, 5. At the completion of a printing for one line the thermal head 1 is traveled to an end point of a platen. At this time, the thermal head 2 has been already traveled near to a start point. In a printing of a next line, the belt is further rotated in a direction A and, thereby, the thermal head 2 is traveled to the position of the thermal head 1 shown by Figure and kept traveling while conducting printing. In this way, a printing is carried out using the two thermal heads, i.e. the thermal head 1 for odd-numbered lines and the other thermal head 2 for even-numbered lines.
