Abstract

PURPOSE:To realize a thermal recorder using a plurality of thermal heads enhanced in image quality, accuracy, and resolving power, by a method wherein, in the thermal heads disposed in staggered form, amounts of shrinkage to a reference temperature are calculated, and a printing area is determined according to the amounts of shrinkage. CONSTITUTION:When three line-type thermal heads are used, temperature signals detected by thermistors 9, 10, 11 are inputted to a temperature detection circuit 5 and therein subjected to A/D conversion. In a control circuit 6, printing area for the respective thermal heads 1-3 are determined according to the inputted temperature information so that overlapped output images or gas between the outputted images can be prevented at the joint parts of the thermal head. On the other, hand, a line memory 7 transfers the stored raster data to a data distribution control circuit 8 according to the command of the control circuit 6. The data distribution control circuit 8 transfers the raster data and blank data which were distributed to the thermal heads 1-3 according to the information of the printing areas of the respective thermal heads 1-3 decided in the control circuit 6, drives the thermal heads, and output images.
