Abstract

PURPOSE:To execute printing by color, and to make the titled printer small in size and light in weight, and to contrive to reduce its cost, by providing a latent image carrying body moving mechanism for moving selectively a belt-like latent image carrying body in the direction for approaching one of plural developing devices. CONSTITUTION:On a belt-like latent image carrying body 21, a latent image corresponding to the first color C is formed in accordance with a printing pattern. Subsequently, a toner is allowed to adhere by allowing the latent image carrying body 21 to approach a developing device 28C corresponding to the first color C by a tension roller 39C being a latent image carrying body moving mechanism. This toner image is transferred together with the latent image carrying body 21 to a position 38 opposed to a form 2, and thereafter, the toner image is transferred in a lump to the form 2. Thereafter, the latent image carrying body 21 is transferred, a residual toner is removed, and with regard to colors M, Y and B of the second color and thereafter, as well, the printing operation is executed in the same way, and after the last transfer is ended, the form 2 is brought to feed paper by a one line portion corresponding to width of the latent image carrying body 21, and the printing operation of a new line is repeated. In such a way, printing by color can be executed and the printer can be made small in size and light in weight.
