Abstract
PURPOSE:To neutralize and to remove a catalytic component simply and efficiently and to obtain isopropenyl acetate by distillation purification, by adding an aqueous solution of an inorganic base to a reaction solution of acetone and ketene. CONSTITUTION:Acetone is reacted with ketene and a catalytic component in the prepared reaction solution of isopropenyl acetate is neutralized and removed. In the neutralization and removal, an aqueous solution of an inorganic base is used as a neutralizing agent, blended with the reaction solution while stirring and a lower layer is separated and removed to give the aimed substance. NaOH or KOH is used as the inorganic base, used as <=10%, preferably <=5% dilute aqueous solution and the amount of the inorganic base added is somewhat an excess amount based on a catalyst (e.g. naphthalene-1,4-disulfonic acid) contained in the reaction solution. The neutralization and removal of the catalyst can be carried out by an extremely simple treating means and effectively and the distillation residue is also handled readily.
