Abstract

PURPOSE:To prolong the life of a discharge electrode, to improve weather resistance of the discharge electrode, and to obtain ozone at low cost with high generation efficiency by applying an electric voltage across a metal base dielectric electrode having a glass ceramic layer formed on the surface and a discharge electrode coated with a Ti opaque glass provided to a part of the dielectric electrode. CONSTITUTION:A glass ceramic layer 2 having 100-300mu thickness contg. >=15wt.% at least one kind of alkaline earth oxide such as BaO, MgO, CaO, ZnO, etc., and <=2wt.% at least one kind of alkali earth oxide such as Na2O, K2O, Li2O, etc., is formed on the surface of a dielectric electrode 3 consisting of a metal base, pref. a steel plate, etc., having 60-140X10<-7>/ deg.C coefft. of heat expansion. Then, a discharge electrode 1 is provided to a part of the layer 2, and the electrode is covered with a Ti opaque glass, constituting thus an ozonizer. A high electric voltage of high frequency is applied across the dielectric electrode 3 and the discharge electrode 1 from a driving power source 5 to generate thus surface streamer discharge at the discharge electrode 1, generating thus ozone.
