Abstract

PURPOSE:To specify a degraded part of equipment, by a method wherein a ferrogram prepared by a ferrography method is treated by thermal treatment between 200 deg.C-500 deg.C at a specified temperature interval to discolor an abrasive powder in a grease for machines and material of the abrasive powder is judged. CONSTITUTION:A machine oil 1 sampled runs over a slide glass 2 to prepare a ferrogram 3. Then, the ferrogram is treated by heating at 200 deg.C-500 deg.C at an interval of 20 deg.C and the current changes in color are observed by a microscope. Then, the material of an abrasive powder in the oil 1 is judged referring the changes in color with a test piece previously prepared to specify a degraded part of equipment. This enables early discovery of a trouble and deterioration in the equipment by judging the abrasive powder in the machine oil.
