Abstract
PURPOSE:To examine deterioration of an insulator without shutdown or taking out the insulator by examining the color of a test piece set in insulation oil. CONSTITUTION:An insulation test piece 3 is set in insulation oil 2 in a tank 1 of an oil transformer. Then the hue of the test piece 3 is observed through a glass window 4 and the insulator deterioration is examined corresponding to a characteristic chart. Although it is desirable that the insulator of the test piece 3 is the same as that used in the transformer, an insulator which is not exactly the same can be used if the correlation is defined. For example, an insulator of the same material and of different thickness, or an insulator of similar materials which has heat deterioration characteristics allowing early examination can be used. A plurality of test pieces may be fixed at one position or several positions. According to this constitution, deterioration of an insulator can be examined non-destructively according to the hue of the test piece 3 without shutdown.
