Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve control precision through further accurate detection of an operation condition and to prevent the occurrence of knocking, by a method wherein, when a compression ratio is varied for control according to the operation condition of an internal combustion engine, the number of revelations of an engine and an engine load are used as the operation condition. CONSTITUTION:An internal combustion engine 1 is provided with a mechanism 2 to vary a compression ratio according to an operation condition. In this case, a means 3 to detect the number of revolutions of an engine and a plurality of an engine load as the operation condition of the internal combustion engine 1. A means 4 to set a target compression ratio according to an operation condition detected by the means 3 is provided. A means 5 to control a compression ratio varying mechanism 2 according to a target compression ratio set by the means 4 is provided. This constitution switches a compression ratio to the low compression side, being the safety side, by means of other load characteristics unaffected by a change in open air condition even when an open air condition is changed like, for example, operation on a high-land, and prevents the occurrence of knocking and worsening of drivability.
