Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily recover waste heat without using any high pressure container and thereby without conflicting with the legal regulations concerning high pressure containers by recovering the waste heat of an exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine using a vacuum heater. CONSTITUTION:An internal combustion engine 1 drives loads of compressors, etc. using the town gas as fuel. An exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine 1 is introduced through a pipeline 3 into a vacuum heater 4, where the heat of the exhaust gas is recovered, and the gas is discharged through a pipeline 5 into the atmosphere. Accordingly, a housing 7 in which a heat medium liquid 6 is stored, is installed in the vacuum heater 4. Then, a first heat exchanger tube 8 connected to each pipeline 3, 5 is immersed in the heat medium liquid 6 of the housing 7, and second and third heat exchanger tubes 10, 11 are installed in a gas-phase space 9 above the heat medium liquid 6. On the other hand, when the temperature of the heat medium liquid 6 abnormally rises, first and second closing valves SV1, SV2 are opened respectively, and a cooling medium flows into the third heat exchanger tube 11.
