Abstract

PURPOSE:To secure such an electrode that has an optimum liquid penetration passage and a gas permeating passage with low pressure by mixing hydrophilic conductive power, water-repellent conductive powder and polytetrafluoroethylene powder into a sheet form, and compressing and cooling it immediately after being heated. CONSTITUTION:Hydrophilic carbon black, water-repellent carbon black and polytetrafluoroethylene powder are mixed together into a sheet form. After heating and sintering it, it is compressed and cooled at one, forming a gas diffusion electrode. Consequently, it is compressed and cooled in the state that a liquid penetration passage and a gas permeating passage in optimum size are formed there, so that the polytetrafluoroethylene loses its kinetic energy so as to be restored to the original state, and the sheet is hardened whereby it is in no case returned to the original heated and sintered state. With this constitution, such a gas diffusion electrode that has the liquid penetration passage and the gas permeating passage, where a contact state between liquid and gas becomes maximized, can be secured with low compressive force.
