Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a CRT at a low cost, wherein the reflection of exterior light is decreased to a great extent by covering the surface of a screen panel with fine particles of optical substance having a smaller index of refraction than glass and certain specified particle sizes. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a screen panel is covered with fine particles of an optical substance having a smaller index of refraction than glass and with particle sizes below 0.1mum. For example, a zol 1 consisting of fine particles of magnesium fluoride has particle sizes from 100 to 200Angstrom . When the screen panel of a CRT 2 is immersed in this zol, the fine particles of magnesium fluoride dispersed in water are closely contacted to the surface of screen panel uniformly. When the screen panel is then dried, a magnesium fluoride film of 0.1mum thick is formed. Thus a CRT is accomplished at a low cost, wherein the index of reflection for external light can be sunk below 1%.
