Abstract
PURPOSE:To make decreased amount of adventitious light to be reflected at the inner surface of a glass panel, and increase the contrast performance of a fluorescent surface by providing mixture layers, which are made of a black light absorbing layer and a transparent conductive layer with a given refractive index, between a phosphor layer and black light absorbing layers. CONSTITUTION:A transparent dielectric layer 6 is provided between a phosphor layer 3 and the inner surface of a glass panel 1 on which black light absorbing layers 2 are formed. Parts of the layer 6 which are located over the layers 2 are changed into mixture layers 7 by mixing with the layers 2. The refractive index of the layer 6 is adjusted to be near that of the panel glass as far as possible. Owing to the above constitution, when an adventitious light L becomes incident upon the mixture layer 7, inner surface reflected lights R2 are greatly decreased, although outer surface reflected lights R1 and mass reflected lights R3 are not changed at all. Consequently, the quality of the picture of a picture tube can be greatly increased.
