Abstract
PURPOSE:To facilitate transition to arc discharge by using a capacitor series circuit to share a square-wave voltage and next connecting one capacitor in this circuit with a primary coil of a pulse transformer through a switching element. CONSTITUTION:This device is provided with the following parts: a discharge lamp 4, a square-wave power source Vs which supplies a square-wave voltage applied across both terminals of the discharge lamp 4, and an igniter circuit 3a which is operated by receiving the square-wave voltage. The igniter circuit 3a is provided with the following parts: a series circuit of capacitors C2 and C3 which shunt the square-wave voltage, a switching element S, a pulse transformer PT having a primary coil connected, through the switching element S, with at least one capacitor C2 in the series circuit of capacitors C2 and C3. Accordingly, a phase of generating a high-voltage pulse can be made to lead largely, and also a period for lamp current's flowing can be enlarged every half cycle on the square-wave voltage. Hence transition to arc discharge is facilitated.
