Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the subject device wherein energy accumulated in the inductance element in each cycle of a power source is applied to an discharge lamp by overlapping te same on a commercial source, thereby directly lighting the lamp by the power source of low voltage.
CONSTITUTION: When a sine voltage is applied from a commercial source 1 to the discharge lamp, a rectifying voltage is generated at the output end of a diode bridge D5 through the output end of the rectifying bridge 4 and a transformer T, and applied to a switch 3, and turns the same "ON". Upon this occasion, the circuit L1 - F1 - 4 - 3 - F2 is closed, and energy is accumulated in an inductance L1, when the phase advances, a thyristor S becomes conductive after the lapse of predetermined hours by the relationship between R1 through R3, the switch 3 is turned off. As a result, the discharge lamp is lighted by a high voltage generated at both ends thereof by accumulated energy at the rectifying bridge 4. According to the device, since a preheating current flows through filaments F1 and F2 before the lighting of the lamp, the lamp is precisely lighted and damage of the electrode can be prevented.
