Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a reflection type diffraction grating which has flat diffraction efficiency over a wide wavelength range by setting blaze wavelengths over a necessary frequency range and engraving repetitive grooves in a glass substrate in parallel at a tilt angle corresponding to the wavelengths. CONSTITUTION:A blaze wavelength lambdab and a blaze wavelength thetab have a relation lambdab=2dSinthetab. (d: reciprocal of the number of engraved grooves per unit length.) For the purpose, the blaze wavelengths are selected and then a blaze angle thetab is found from an expression; and small glass substrates where grooves are engraved at this angle are arrayed in a matrix. In this case, cutters having blaze angles are used to engrave grooves by every two-pitch shift from conventional engraved grooves and thus the same effect with a matrix array is obtained. Consequently, the diffraction grating which has flat diffracted light efficiency over a wide wavelength range is obtained.
