Abstract
PURPOSE:To easily obtain a porous alumina having large surface area in high efficiency, by carrying out crystal growth of a seed alumina hydrogel while causing the pH variation within an insoluble range of alumina hydrogel particle, thereby forming alumina hydrogel particles having prescribed particle diameter with decreased addition frequency of the raw material compared with conventional process. CONSTITUTION:Alumina is produced from aluminum sulfate and sodium aluminate by the following process. A seed alumina hydrogel is alternately added with aluminum sulfate and sodium aluminate within the insoluble pH range of alumina hydrogel particle. The deviation of the pH of the hydrogel from the insoluble range is prevented by controlling the amounts of aluminum sulfate and sodium aluminate and the pH condition during the addition of the above aluminum compounds. The raw materials are alternately added to the system while keeping the pH of the hydrogel within the insoluble range and varying the pH within the above range.
