Abstract
PURPOSE:To make it possible to provide a material, having excellent strength and bone inductivity and useful for biological hard tissues, by depositing a crystal layer of calcium phosphate on a substrate of calcium phosphate polycrystal containing apatite having a specific value or above of relative density and alpha-type tricalcium phosphate. CONSTITUTION:For example, optional calcium phosphate raw materials are mixed, pressed into a desired shape and fired to afford a dense sintered compact, containing apatite and alpha-Ca3(PO4)2 and having >=90% relative density. The resultant sintered compact is then used as a substrate and dipped in an aqueous solution containing one or more kinds of phosphoric acid, monohydrogenphosphate and dihydrogenphosphate ions to form a thin outer layer in which calcium phosphate crystals are deposited on the sintered compact and afford the aimed composite material. Since the resultant composite material contains a substrate part having >=90% relative density, the strength is high (>=3,000kgf/cm<2> compressive strength) with high bone inductivity due to the calcium phosphate crystal layer on the outer surface.
